MY
WILL - TELLING STORIES
“Will
is nothing but the achievement of someone’s
idea...this is the meaning of will...”.
Maybe
those were the words that crossed Peter Elia
and Simone Di Pietro’s minds in an unidentified
moment between spring and fall of 2002, when
they finally decided to start a musical project
in which they could express their potentials...not
being only a common and anonymous cover band!
Guitar-player VS Guitar-player...two different
ways of interpreting musical tastes seemingly
very distant from one another: Peter was, and
still is, animated by the passion for healthy
hard rock and power progressive metal, apparently
very difficult to converge towards Simone’s
love for trash & death metal tradition.
Good
intentions, plenty of ideas...
The
main problem was finding the right fellow-travellers
in this fabulous, exciting and difficult research
of pure creative and expressive potentials.
So the adventure began. They started asking
advice to their close friends, passing through
the well known advertisements in music instruments’
shops. But the positive reactions did not arrive
until...
...through
common friends, Peter met Marco Mazzetti...
Trash
& melodic death guitar player, Marco immediately
distinguished himself from Simone in the riffs’
creative and executive moment...two different
guitar philosophies that perfectly intertwine
in MW compositions, with Marco almost exclusively
concentrated on the rhythmical side and Simone
involved in the creation of sharp solo lines.
On
that precise moment, Peter decided to concentrate
himself on his voice potentials leaving to his
friends the chance to challenge one another
with their own “axes”.
Drums
became Francesco’s (Marco’s younger
brother) “private property”. He
immediately accepted the challenge of the newly-born
musical project with his own complex and affected
approach to the instrument. It is not a mere
chance if one of his favourite drummers is the
sensational ex ‘Death’ Richard Christy!
The
project was almost ready, except for the lack
of Francesco’s mate in the rhythmical
section: the bass player.
Finding the last mosaic dowel was the harder
thing to do: many castings and all of them not
satisfying.
The boys began to curse their destiny...but
finally they had their reward with name and
surname: Michele Baccinelli.
A
friend of Marco, Michele immediately persuaded
them: a very bizarre fellow and bass player
with many musical influences, he took a new
flash of genius in MW’s world. A world
always ready to accept new ideas and inspirations
and...very much adrenalin too!
Their
first covers show some of the influences of
this group of five: Control Denied ‘Consumed’
satisfies Francesco’s Richard Christy
hunger while Iron Maiden ‘Wasting Love’
& ‘Phantom of the Opera’, Metallica
‘Creeping Death’, Testament ‘Legacy’
and Slayer ‘South of Heaven’ come
from the various background of the other four
members, with a clear common trash root.
Then came ‘NIB’ (Black Sabbath),
‘Fade to Black (Metallica), ‘Burnt
Offerings’ (Testament), ‘Raining
Blood’ (Slayer), ‘Cemetery Gates
(Pantera) and ‘Once solemn’ (Paradise
Lost)...pieces that MW still love to play on
live sessions!
Meanwhile
first demo’s songs were ready in their
guiding lines and then re-arranged to obtain
the final product.
The debut EP entitled “Prepare to Pain”
was finished by October 2003.
The entire work was recorded at Mazzetti brothers’
home, thanks to the extremely important support
of Gianluca Maccarone and enriched by Stefano
Di Noi cover-record.
The
huge musical background of the group push MW
to put close attention in the compositions that,
from the first rehearsal to the last second
before the recording, are continuously modified,
leaving the members ample room to express themselves.
Frequent
changes of time, style and feeling, vocal lines
with growl & clean interlacing, are all
peculiar features of their songs.
For this reason it is difficult to classify
MW in a certain musical genre... perhaps unique.
